Privacy Policy
Our Commitment to Privacy
We are committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of your personal information. The Parent Will Pty Ltd is a Queensland legal practice providing estate planning services. We handle your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. We will only collect, use and disclose your personal information for the purposes for which it was collected, or as otherwise permitted or required by law.
Amendments
We reserve the right to change, update or correct this Privacy Policy, our Terms or any information contained on the website at any time without notice by posting an amended privacy policy or terms to the website. Your continued use of the website and/or engaging and providing instructions to The Parent Will means you accept and agree to the revised privacy policy and/or Terms.
Collection of Personal Information
We only collect personal information reasonably necessary to provide legal services to you. This may include your contact details, date of birth, family information, estate planning instructions, details of your assets and liabilities, executors, beneficiaries, guardians, attorneys, identification documents where required, and payment information. Wherever practicable, we collect this information directly from you.
Our website also collects some information through cookies and similar technologies. Our Cookies Policy explains what we use and how you can control it.
Identity Verification
Before we act for you, we need to verify your identity. We use Stripe Identity for this. You will be asked to photograph an identity document and take a photo of yourself, and Stripe uses facial recognition technology to confirm that the two match. This involves biometric information, which is sensitive information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We only collect it with your consent, which we ask for before the check begins. Stripe processes this information in the United States and other countries and handles it in accordance with its own privacy policy, available at stripe.com/au/privacy. If you would prefer not to verify your identity this way, let us know and we will arrange another method, such as a video call with your identity documents.
How We Use Your Personal Information
We use your personal information to provide legal services, prepare estate planning documents, communicate with you, comply with our professional obligations, manage our practice and, where you have consented, provide you with updates about our services. If you choose not to provide information we reasonably require, we may be unable to provide some or all of our legal services.
Disclosure of Personal Information
We will only disclose your personal information with your consent, where required or authorised by law, or where reasonably necessary to provide our legal services. This may include disclosure to courts, government authorities, financial institutions, barristers, other legal practitioners, professional advisers and trusted third-party service providers.

Before we disclose personal information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled in a way that is consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles, including by using providers that are bound by contractual privacy and security obligations. We remain accountable for how these providers handle your personal information on our behalf.
File Retention
We retain client records for as long as required to comply with our legal and professional obligations and otherwise as permitted by law.
Security of Your Personal Information
